YSO(Ce)

Precision YSO(Ce) Scintillators: Zero Background & Fast Decay

Cerium-doped Yttrium Orthosilicate (YSO:Ce) is a premier rare-earth scintillator engineered for the world’s most sensitive detection fields. Crucially, unlike LYSO, YSO(Ce) contains no Lutetium, delivering an absolute zero-background performance that is mandatory for ultra-precise, low-level radiation monitoring.

Highly radiation-resistant and strictly non-deliquescent (non-hygroscopic), this rugged crystal boasts a high density of 4.45g/cm³ and a rapid decay time of 50-70ns. Emitting at a peak wavelength of 420nm, it ensures seamless and highly efficient coupling with standard photodetectors.

ATR Crystal custom-manufactures standalone YSO(Ce) crystals, ultra-thin scintillation screens, and precision YSO(Ce) arrays. By optimizing every design with premium reflector materials, we guarantee high light output, exceptional pixel-to-pixel uniformity, and minimal optical crosstalk for demanding applications across PET imaging, nuclear physics, and industrial NDT.

Lithium Fluoride(LiF) is used for windows, lenses and prisms in the Vacuum UV, UV, visible and infrared where transmission in the range 0.104µm to 7µm is desired. Transmission is about 40% at 121nm. LiF is attacked by atmospheric moisture at 400C, and softens at 600C. LiF is sensitive to thermal shock. Irradiation produces color centers. The material can be cleaved along (100) and less commonly (110). Although the optical characteristics are good the structure is not perfect and cleavage is difficult. VUV grade LiF windows are available.
